There are so many roses that we love to incorporate in our formulas. The blue bowl of roses pictured here are from Indigena’s rose garden in Topsail. We’ve used Roses from Moldova, Bulgaria, Morocco and the Middle East, Rosa Damascena, Our favourite roses grow wild right here in Newfoundland, Virginia Rose is the wild pale pink one and Rosa Nitida  or Shining Rose pictured below at the end of the blog is a bright vibrant pink. The wild roses in our garden are known as Beach Rose or Rosa rugosa (rugosa rose, Japanese rose, Ramanas rose, or letchberry) is a species of rose native to eastern Asia. It is a popular rose bush that can be found all over Newfoundland in peoples gardens and throughout the landscape. Authentic rose oil smells very woodsy almost musky. Not the floral fragrance that the majority of people think it is today. It is the most expensive essential oil in the world due to the fact that petals are picked by hand as dawn with the dew drops on them and gently dried to be fully processed. We air dry, steam distill and macerate our rose petals at Indigena to carefully preserve the potent essense of the petals.

No matter what country the roses grow in they are gently picked and minimally processed then made into rose essential oil, hydrosols and dried for teas and poupourri.
